AJAX 13
RadAjax

RadAjaxPanel exposes a rich set of client-side events which allow for easy and flexible use in a wide range of application scenarios:

OnRequestStart -- fired when a request to the server is started.

  • OnRequestSent -- fired when a request is sent to the server.
  • OnResponseReceived -- fired when a response is received from the server.
  • OnResponseEnd -- fired when a response from the server is processed.
This example demonstrates the use of RadAjaxPanel in a typical order payment system.
The OnRequestStart and OnResponseEnd client-side events are handled to display client-side status messages during the AJAX request.

HowTo add Ajax in-progress indicators

Ok, so my little del.icio.us app (click link to read about how I added Ajax functionality to a simple Rails app) is pretty cool, but it was missing one big thing. When the user clicks the "Get Results" link she has no idea that the page is communicating with the server. While the communication doesn't go on forever, an impatient user might click the link multiple times.

AJAX: Creating Huge Bookmarklets

A bookmarklet is a special piece of JavaScript code that can be dragged into a user's link toolbar, and which later can be clicked on to implement cross-site behavior. People have done all sorts of cool stuff with it.

Bookmarklets have size limitations, which differ based on browser and platform, since they must fit into a certain number of characters. They can also be difficult to maintain for more sophisticated scripts, since every line of JavaScript code has to be jammed into one line.

AJAX Chat Tutorial Part 1: Introduction, The Zend Framework

This tutorial is a step by step introduction to creating a lightweight chat application using XML as a storage medium. As personal motivation, I develop PHP games as a hobby. In pursuit of that hobby I've found that offering a flat threadless forum in such games tends to result in heavy usage as players attempt to use it as a chat room. The reason is that even with the advent of irc and instant messengers, users continue see an alternative web based solution as attractive for a number of reasons whether its limited access to instant messengers through a corporate proxy or simply for convenience sake

How to make a digg-like spy

Ever since digg introduced the digg spy, many people have tried to incorporate the same idea into their own websites, which is basically to see whats happening in real time. But if you don't have a high-volume website like digg, there's not always a lot to spy on. Still, there are many things that are beneficial to web masters to see in real time. In this article, we'll cover a few of those reasons, and I'll teach you how to build a basic real-time spy for your own website (in PHP and MySQL).
