Most important department? Depends on who's asking! Ultimately, marketing is the food, and reservations are the lifeblood for any hotel. But remember, it takes all departments working in unison to succeed. No department is above another. |

I prefer to let my employees be trained by all the team members that they will work with. This ensures a blended learning approach that lets them decide how best to do their job. Tricky....if I could adequately answer that, I wouldn't need my job! I belive it is the combo of being in the right place, at the right rate, for the right people.

If you want to work in the hotel industry, then you are going to benefit from some great news released February 16, 2006, by Reuters. They reported from Boca Raton, Florida, that corporate hospitality leaders are looking to increase hiring in the coming year.
What does that mean for you? If you are planning to market yourself to this exciting and ever-changing industry, then you have a lot of potential for success.
There are many occupations within the industry, so you will have a variety of positions to which you can market yourself. In addition, you will also have a wider base of opportunities for advancement if you are open to learning and willing to make lateral as well as vertical moves within the organization with which you are employed.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, service occupations make up approximately 65 percent of the industry's employment. Companies that employ workers vary in size from multi-national organizations to family-owned motels. The choice of which type of employer you prefer may, in part, be based upon where you want to work.
