ICCF chess webserver:
ANNOUNCEMENT: the webserver received a major update on 20.04.2007. Many of the screenshots and instructions in this tutorial are no longer valid or are incomplete. Many new features have been added and the pages have been redesigned. Much of the tutorial is still correct in general and can still be used as a guideline. However, many specifics have changed. Eventually, this tutorial will be completely replaced with a new tutorial.
Building Apache 2.2.3 or 2.0.59, with mod_ssl, mod_security, mod_deflate
To build mod_deflate, the zlib source code directory is placed under C:\build\httpd-2.x.x\srclib (as httpd-2.x.x\srclib\zlib). The main Apache 2.0/2.2 build process will automatically compile the zlib source code and build mod_deflate. Note that to build zlib v1.2.3 under Apache 2.0, the C:\build\httpd-2.0.x\modules\filters\mod_deflate.dep/dsp/mak files will need to be patched. Do NOT perform this patching step if building mod_deflate under Apache 2.2, or if building against zlib v1.1.4.

The PWS service should start automatically when your computer reboots without you needing to configure anything. But if you want to look at the configuration options, open up the PWS Manager as follows:

On Windows 95 and NT, open Start Menu > Programs > Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack > Microsoft Personal Web server > Personal Web Manager.

On Windows 98, double-click on the PWS icon in your Start bar:
